Award-winning writer and campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez, speaks with New Scientist medical reporter Clare Wilson about how systematic gender biases are impacting women and men differently as the world copes with coronavirus. For example, says Criado-Perez, personal protective equipment is not only in short supply, its design is often based upon male body norms which puts women at increased risk. And covid-19 affects men and women differently with men dying at higher rates, but many countries are not collecting s*x-disaggregated data, making it difficult to understand those differences.
